Artist's Comments

Here is a tutorial requested by ~ AltroN-GS about my vectoring technique. It uses Photoshop and Illustrator but Paintshop and Freehand could be used just as well. Just make sure the file types are the same as listed. Please comment if something doesn't make sense.

Totally awesome. I've been looking for something like this for awhile.

I don't have anything but Photoshop 6.0, is it still manageable?

I've only got CS at home but I have 6.0 at school. It is possible to simulate a vector image in CS but I'm not sure about 6.0. I'll take a look at it on Monday and get back to you. If you want to just try it for yourself, look to see if you have a pen tool option "shape layer." it should be on the left hand side along with "paths" and "fill pixels"
That will work but it will create a new layer for each cell you make and generally be a pain in the butt. If you can find a program (like a free trial of Illustrator or freehand) that will accept the .ai format you can c&;p the paths from that program into Flash and do the same basic thing from there as well. Then again, if you've got the free trial, why not just do it in there. Hope that is usefull.

Thanks! I downloaded a free trial, but what do you select to color each individual space? And how can you edit the lines? Everytime I clicked on a color or something my thing would disappear, so then I'd push crt a again and it'd come back up, and I'd make the fill and whatever colors black and white, but yeah. So I gave up. Do you know what I'm talking about? How does it work?

You might be having a common problem. Try this: Once you have everything selected (ctrl+a) look at the two color pickers (just like photoshop). The "foreground color" is the fill color and the "background color" is the stroke. Set fill to white and stroke to black. Click somewhere off to the side so it deselects. if you just see a white square with a black outline, click it and choose edit>arrange>move to back. (I don't have illustrator on this comp so I don't know if this is the correct menu order. Look for the arrange option). Your art should appear on top of the square. If that doesn't work let me know.

Cool I have been wondering on how to do Vector art. I'm always impressed by others who can.
